The Darkness of Edwin A. Abbotts Flatland Essay -- Abbott Flatland E
      The Darkness of Flatland à       à       à       à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã    The golden sand sparkles in the brilliant sunlight. The à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   radiant beams hit the calm waves which magnify the fervent light. à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   Content and overjoyed, many birds fly high overhead. On the à   à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  beach, an annoying crab approaches an ostrich, coercing the à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   grounded bird to hide its head in a hole in the sand.à   Paralyzed à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   with fear, the mammoth bird, although huge in comparison to the à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   attacking crab, buries its head in the cold, wet sand, hoping à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   that the feeble but ominous assailant will leave.à   Comfortable à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   with its dreary hiding place, the large, awkward bird remains à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   buried its entire life, never experiencing the comforting life à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   which the light produces. Because the bird is intimidated by this à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   minuscule but threatening crab, the never-ending cycle of fear à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   continues.à   Much like this frightened bird and the citizens of à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   Flatland, humans prefe... ...nbsp;à   ideas. Often, leaders fear irregulars because they speak the à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   truth. Arthur, aà    born-again irregular through his experiences, à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   tells of a new way of living and striving to liveà   right and not à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   to fear the unknown, but to bring it into the open, explore it, à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   and to learn from it.à   They will always rely on logic and à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   tradition, ignoring faith and ideas based not on fact. Flatland à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã   will remain without light forever. à       à       à       à  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã  Ã        à
